Functional Capacity Assessment

A Functional Capacity Assessment provides a comprehensive overview of an individual’s ability to manage everyday activities and participate in home, school, work, and community life. This assessment is commonly used to support funding applications, including NDIS reviews and plan reassessments, and to guide future therapy goals and support needs.

The assessment is tailored to children, adolescents, and young adults, and considers both current abilities and the level of support required to safely and independently engage in daily activities.

May include:

  • Detailed clinical interview with participant and caregivers

  • Observation of functional tasks and daily routines

  • Standardised assessment tools

  • Assessment of

    • self-care, domestic, and community living skills

    • social participation and interpersonal skills

    • emotional regulation and behavioural presentation

    • cognitive skills including planning, problem-solving, and organisation

  • Review of school reports, medical reports, and multidisciplinary input

Outcome:
A detailed report outlining functional strengths, support needs, and recommendations for therapy, equipment, environmental modifications, and funding justification.
